We only need this particular server for 1.5 months more before it will be taken down anyway. Turns out the reason for not having a license was that it was too expensive for us, but as long as the DB was >10GB it shouldn't be a problem I was told, but tuns out that only applies if you use the express version.
Today a server rebooted and when it came up again the SQL server was down due to expired evaluation as I found out, when reviewing the logs. Neither he nor I have tons of experience. I have inherited the responsibility for maintaining the IT side of a very small 4 people startup as the lead guy has become permanently ill.
Final edit: It works now :) Thanks to everyone who helped, you guys are massive heroes.
